Forge speedups are one of the most powerful items in your inventory — and one of the most misused. The confusion is completely understandable: a single item participates in two entirely separate scoring mechanics across different event days. Use them at the wrong moment and you lose both opportunities. Use them correctly and you double-dip on points.
🔑 The key insight: Forge speedups do two different things. (1) Using a forge speedup = Speedup points (Day IV of MGE/MEE). (2) Completing legendary gear = Crafting points (Day III/VII of MGE, Day II/IV of MEE). These are scored on different days and the optimal play is to capture both.
Two Completely Separate Mechanics
Before diving into strategy, you need to understand exactly what scores and when:
Applying Forge Speedups
The act of tapping a forge speedup to reduce crafting time. Scores on MGE Day IV (Speedup Day) and MEE Day IV. Formula: floor(minutes / 60) × points per hour.
Crafting Legendary Gear
The moment a piece of gear finishes crafting. Scores on MGE Day III + VII (Wheel & Gathering Day) and MEE Day II + IV. Legendary gear yields 30,000 pts per piece.
How the Scoring Formulas Work
Each mechanic has its own formula. Knowing the numbers helps you plan how many speedups to save:
| Event | Day | Mechanic | Formula / Rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| MGE | Day IV | Using forge speedups | floor(min ÷ 60) × 30 pts |
| MGE | Day III + VII | Gear completion | 30,000 pts (legendary) |
| MEE | Day IV | Using forge speedups | floor(min ÷ 60) × 300 pts |
| MEE | Day II + IV | Gear completion | 30,000 pts (legendary) |
⏱️ Speedup formula explained: Only complete hours count. 59 minutes of speedups = 0 pts. 60 minutes = 30 pts (MGE) or 300 pts (MEE). 119 minutes = still just 30/300 pts. 120 minutes = 60/600 pts. Always use speedups in full-hour batches to avoid wasting partial minutes.
Which Gear Tiers Score Points?
Not all crafted gear is equal. Point values scale sharply with rarity:
- Legendary gear — 30,000 pts per piece. Always the target.
- Epic gear — Lower points (significantly less than legendary). Only craft epic if legendary materials are unavailable.
- Rare and below — Minimal return. Not worth crafting for event score.
Focus exclusively on legendary. Each legendary piece you complete is worth 30,000 pts — multiple pieces per crafting day compound your total score significantly.
How Many Forge Speedups Do You Need?
Crafting a single piece of legendary gear takes a fixed number of forge speedup minutes depending on your tech level and the specific equipment. As a general benchmark:
- Plan for 1,000–4,000 minutes of forge speedups per legendary piece at typical tech levels.
- Gear up before the event cycle: Hoard forge speedups in the days leading up to the MGE/MEE cycle. Do not use them casually outside of event windows.
- Each 60 minutes used on Day IV = 30 pts (MGE) or 300 pts (MEE). A 2,400-minute (40-hour) batch = 1,200 MGE pts or 12,000 MEE pts from the speedup mechanic alone — plus 30,000 pts when the piece completes.
- Queue multiple pieces: If you have the materials, queue 2–3 legendary items before Day IV. Each completion = another 30,000 pts.
The Mistake That Costs You Everything
⚠️ The classic error: Using forge speedups on Day III (Wheel & Gathering day) to finish gear faster. This feels productive — you get the crafting completion points — but you burn your speedups before Speedup Day (Day IV). You lose all the speedup scoring opportunity. Worse, if you finish the gear too early, it may complete before the crafting-score phase is open.
Here is what actually happens when you use forge speedups at the wrong time:
- Used on Day III: Gear completes — good, 30,000 pts. But your forge speedups are now gone and cannot be used on Day IV. You lose all speedup points.
- Used outside the event cycle: No speedup points, no crafting points. Both mechanics wasted.
- Gear finishes before phase opens: If the item completes outside the crafting-score window, the 30,000 pts are forfeited entirely.
The Optimal Double-Dip Strategy
The correct play captures both mechanics in a single event cycle. Here is the exact sequence:
Quick Reference: When Things Score
| Action | Scores On | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Using forge speedups (MGE) | MGE Day IV | floor(min÷60)×30 |
| Using forge speedups (MEE) | MEE Day IV | floor(min÷60)×300 |
| Legendary gear completion (MGE) | MGE Day III or VII | 30,000 pts |
| Legendary gear completion (MEE) | MEE Day II or IV | 30,000 pts |
| Epic gear completion | Same crafting days | < 30,000 pts |
Pre-Event Checklist
- ✅ Hoard forge speedups in the days before the event cycle — do not use them casually.
- ✅ Stock legendary crafting materials before Day I begins.
- ✅ Start crafting on Day I or II so the timer is running but far from complete.
- ✅ On Day IV only, apply all your forge speedups — stop with a few minutes left on the craft.
- ✅ Let the craft finish during the open scoring window to claim the 30,000 pts completion bonus.
- ✅ Queue the next piece immediately to keep the crafting chain going.
